The wedding guest's guide to wedding dressing.

Now that the wedding season is upon us, it’s time for all of you gentlemen to revamp your ethnic wardrobe. And we know, dressing for a wedding which isn’t yours in not an easy job to do! So we’ve compiled a short list here to help you dress for your friend’s/Sister’s/Aunt’s big day, without outdoing the groom.

First, the Mehendi:
Go all traditional for this one. Wear a classic Kurta-Pyjama set with a simple, but stylish Bandi. Natural fabrics would be the best for this event. So think: Jutes, Linens and Cottons. But of course, bright colours; Or at least, a hint of bright colours. Try a Pathani or a Patiala bottom with the kurta, instead of the regular churidaar.

Sangeet Ceremony:
The Sangeet is usually THE MOST photographed event of the wedding week, even more than the wedding day. And since we’ve already done traditional for the Mehendi ceremony, time to make this outfit a little Indo-Western. Opt for stylish Bandhgalas, with big metal buttons in bronze or antique gold tones. Add other designer details like a zipper opening, or play around with the cut of the collar. Match this with sleek, slim-fit trousers or semi-jodhpuri pants and you’re set!

Wedding Ceremony:
Now this is one event where you MUST keep things traditional. Since the groom will be culturally restricted in terms of the colours he can wear, it gives you the option to try a variety. And just because it’s tradional, doesn’t mean it can’t be stylish! You can go for a long open jacket in tradional silks, matched with a bright coloured dhoti. Printed velvets are all the rage right now and they make for very stylish Nehru Jackets!

Reception:
While this event is almost strictly western for the groom, you can try an indo-western look, if you didn’t already wear something similar for another event. Which means both Bandhgala or a classic suit is suitable for this day. Avoid wearing a waistcoat, as you may look overdressed. Match this with a nice, bright pocket square, you’re all good to go.

Happy Weddings!
