Dapper Men - Part 2

A GUIDE TO INDIAN MEN'S WEAR FABRICS

It is inferred that every piece of garment reflects the art and attributes of a country or culture. For India, the fashion scene, chiefly for men has experienced an impressive change.

Our culture offers a vast variety of supreme fabrics which can be employed in giving your wardrobe a grand makeover. From a classy Kurta to an elegant Bandhgala or a luxurious Sherwani, Indian fabrics communicate best for ethnic occasions.

Here's a simple guide to choose your Indian fabric 's right.

Silk

A high end fabric in the list, its excellent drape and luxurious appeal makes it popular for Silk kurta's, Bandhgala's, Dhoti's, Nehru jackets etc. Thread work and prints enhance the appeal of the tailored garment.

Fabrics like Silk Jacquard and Brocade are intricately woven fabric and has varying finesse. It is the most popular fabric for Indian wedding wear apparels for it gives a rich embroidered look. Sherwani's and Bandi's made in jacquard gives the garment a very elegant and ethnic appeal.

Velvet

One of the most appealing fabrics associated with royalty, Sherwani's and Bandi"s made from velvet make you stand out in the crowd. Embroidery on velvet adds cherry on the icing. It can be used delicately with other fabrics to create chic outfits. Blends with silk and rayon are most popular for Indian ethnic wear.

Satin

With its excellent draping properties satin is used mostly for dhoti's and worn only for important ceremonies. A satin dhoti teamed with a silk or jacquard kurta is a perfect combination for a evening ceremony.

Cotton

It is excessively used for men's casual wear for its excellent breath-ability factor and is comfortable for light weight clothing. Easy to wear, most cuts and styling can be tried with it.

Cotton blends produce better and more versatile fabrics and are mostly favored by people to get casual kurta's and pajama's tailored.

Linen

It is an excellent choice for men's casual wear because of it comfort and breath-ability factor.

Other fabrics used in Indian men's wear garments  to create a casual or regal look are -

Wool Mix for Bandi's

Suede for Bandhgala and Sherwani

Corduroy for Bandhgala and Bandi's

knits for Bandhgala's

Jute blends for Nehru Jackets and Sherwani's

These fabrics flatter nearly any body type. Adorned with traditional embellishments or embroidery like Kundan, Zari, or Cut-Bead work, these fabrics can be tailored to your fancy and give you a classy look.

Once you know your fabric right, all that's left to do is flaunt your style because as versatile as Indian menswear fabrics, it can be worn by anyone regardless of culture.
