THE SOCK DRAWER OVERHAUL
When it comes to
socks, men no longer need to play “match the following” with their pants. The
concept of pairing bright socks to brighten up one’s attire has caught on to
the fashion world like wildfire. While every man is brought up keeping only one
rule in mind regarding socks – that the colour of your sock should match the
colour of your trousers – it is fast becoming a fact of the ancient world.
A clean cut
power suit can be paired with solid colors to make a bold statement during a meeting,
whereas a pair
of printed socks can be used to turn something as simple as a pair of jeans
combined with a white shirt into a photo-perfect look.
The easiest step
in the handbook is “When in Doubt, Go Classic” – so if you’re only just getting
out of the monotony of the ‘trouser-matches-sock’ game, then think no further
than the traditional argyle patterned socks!
What’s an argyle
pattern you ask? It’s those angular plaid patterns which dominated the “funky”
section of the sock drawers for as long as I can remember.
Another
foolproof method to carry off colored socks without attracting unwanted
attention is to select a shade darker or lighter than your trousers. So let’s
say you’re wearing a navy blue suit, then your safest bet would be a midnight
or an azure blue – stripes with both colors would work too.
The
next and final level is the “Tim Burton – Lady Gaga” version of the sock story.
Make a statement with vibrant color-blocking and prints inspired by R2D2 or a
moustache or even Johnny Bravo! There are no holds barred here – all colors are
welcome to the wardrobe – even hot pinks and fluorescent yellows. This is
definitely not a style for the faint at heart – to wear or watch!
