If you're looking to build a more stylish wardrobe, but don't know
where to start, then you need to forget the big picture and focus on the
smaller details. Because small details can go a long way, all the while
maintaining your fuss-free dressing routine. This is for men who tend to dress
safe - but want to add new features to your otherwise sombre wardrobe. Where do
you begin?
1) Colour:
If you usually lean towards safe colours like Dark greys, Navys
and Dark browns for your suits and think checks and patterns are too risky for
you, move towards lighter and brighter tones in similar colours. Opt for a
brighter blue instead of a navy, pick a very light grey or choose browns which
have a little texture on them.
Alternatively, if you WANT to add other colours to your personal
collection, pick more sober versions of otherwise bold colours like a red or a
green and pick a deep maroon or a dark emerald instead.
2) Design:
If you're a corporate man and it is required of you to dress
professionally, make small changes like the shape of your collar or add very
small contrast details like a piping on the edges of your collar and cuffs.
Even a contrast in your buttons will make for an interesting change in an
otherwise boring outfit.
3) Accessories:
Accessories can play a very important role in making a statement,
adding something like a fine fountain pen to your work outfit can send the
right message to your business associates. You can also refer to our previous
post about essential suit accessories.
4) Shoes:
I think it is very well known that it is impossible for a man to
be well dressed in cheap shoes. The right pair of shoes can pull the whole
outfit together and investing in a good quality pair is something that all men
need to do to complete their wardrobe. Pick more trendier styles, like the wing tip
instead of a cap-toe. Apart from a classic pair of black oxfords, one should definitely
own a pair of dark brown and tan shoes.
These are small steps that will help refresh your personal style and perk up your wardrobe!
